An emotional Natasha Fyles has recounted the moment her sons Henry and Oliver learnt she would resign as Chief Minister.
In her resignation speech, Ms Fyles revealed her sons were looking forward to “having their mum back”.
“Yesterday afternoon we farewelled my father-in-law – it reminded me that life is well lived, but it has ups and downs that can be shared with the ones you love most,” she said.
“So last night when I told my boys of my decision, a big smile crept across Henry’s face – he thinks it’s an early Christmas present, getting his mum back.”
Ms Fyles described her family as “life’s greatest gifts”.
“Spending more time with Paul, Oli and Henry – life’s greatest gifts – is what’s important to me,” she said.
“It’s been an absolute honour to serve as Chief Minister of the Northern Territory.”
Ms Fyles thanked her supporters before farewelling the press.
“Thank you to the amazing staff that have cared for, to the public service who work hard each and every day, to my colleagues, the union movement, the labour movement, and all Territorians for your support,” she said.
“And now it’s farewell and I’ll see you in 2024.”
