Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory: School holiday program released

Approaching the school holidays, Top End families will have plenty of activities to choose from after the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory dropped a massive program.

From crocodiles and stingers to a silent disco, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is offering families the chance to make the most of the exhibitions currently available in the upcoming school holidays.

Natural Science Collection

Tuesday 25 June, 11am – 12pm;

Wednesday 3 July, 11am - 12pm; and

Wednesday 10 July, 11am - 12pm.

At $12.50 per person, participants can join MAGNT Natural Science Collection Manager, Sue Horner, and Technical Officer, Lucyna Kania, for a tour of the Natural Science Collection dry store.

Children can walk among the specimen cabinets, discover weird and wonderful examples of the Northern Territory’s diverse wildlife and learn how MAGNT’s Natural Science Collection supports wildlife conservation and scientific research around the world.

The exhibition is suitable for ages 5-16 years, however enclosed footwear must be worn and adult supervision, as well as bookings, are essential.

From Jaws to Claws

Thursday 27 June, 11am – 12pm,

A free event, the natural history gallery, ‘Transformations: the changing nature of the territory’ is a special place in the Museum where you can discover multiple crocodiles, touch real fossils and learn about marine stingers and the mini-monsters that live in the Northern Territory.

Join MAGNT Curator Emeritus of Molluscs, Dr Richard Willan, for an exciting tour through this gallery.

Suitable for ages 5-16 years.

Live Life on the WILD side (Silent Disco Style)

Thursday 4 July, 10.30am - 11.30pm and 12pm - 1pm;

Friday 5 July, 10.30am - 11.30pm and 12pm - 1pm;

Saturday 6 July, 10.30am - 11.30pm and 12pm - 1pm.

At $12.50 per person, explore the wonders of MAGNT’s Natural History and living worlds, silent disco style.

Complete with your own headset of funky tunes, this interactive tour will take you on a journey through the museum’s collection of bugs, birds and beasts, with plenty of fun games along the way.

Take a trip back in time through NT’s flora and fauna, while boogying to your favourite songs and connecting with just how important our beautiful and diverse landscapes and their creatures are.

Suitable for ages 6 - 12 years.

A free event, join us an insight into some of the artists featured in the 2024 Telstra NATSIAA exhibition led by MAGNT Education Officer, Jude Dawson.
