Coinciding with 65 years of business in Townsville, a family owned group is rebranding to honour the three generations that have come through the office doors.

Formally known as Mendi Group, the company has changed its name to Doyle Group Holdings.

The company will remain under Jeff Doyle’s ownership, and it is business as usual, with the parent company to subsidiaries including Mendi Constructions, CAMM Quarries, Townsville Graded Sands and NQ Helicopters.

Starting off as a civil construction company with eight employees under the helm of the late Kevin Doyle, the company has grown to now have more than 130 employees, with Kevin’s son Jeff as managing director.

Jeff Doyle began at the company in 1986, with the third generation of the Doyle family now heavily involved in the business.

Jeff Doyle began at the company in 1986, with the third generation of the Doyle family now heavily involved in the business.

Sons Matt and Mitch work in the construction and quarry groups of the business, daughter Ashleigh works in administration and although still in school daughter Courtney plans to enter into the business once she has graduated Year 12.

Mr Doyle said his wife Natasha was an integral part of the business.

“She’s been here since 2013 and has been a very big part of the company,” he said.

Key projects for the group have included the building of the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, as well as their community support for sporting and charity groups, including Mendi Blackhawks, Mendi 9’s and Tropical Big Bash.

Jeff Doyle said the family approach to business was key to the success of the company and the reasoning behind the name change and rebrand and he has noted that it will be business as usual.

“The rebrand signifies the diversity that we’ve managed to be able to create over the last 65 years,” he said.

“Predominantly, we are a civil construction business, but we’ve incorporated the quarry, concrete and other businesses into what we do now. We have the third generation involved in the business now, with my kids coming through, so it’s a good opportunity for change.”

Mr Doyle said the group had grown from humble beginnings to now focusing on larger-scale projects.

“We were a subdivision contractor, that was our bread and butter for the last eight to nine years. We’ve diluted our exposure to the residential market and went more for the infrastructure projects, which has been fantastic in the North,” he said.

With the group currently working on projects including the Jensen landfill rehabilitation, Mr Doyle said the integration of other businesses meant a strong supply chain for the company.

He said he was confident in the growth of the business into the future.

“Our strategy is to continue to grow the business and be able to provide for families in Townsville for the next 65 years and beyond,” he said.

Mr Doyle said the business was successful due to their staff.

“We’ve got people that have been here for nearly 30 years,” he said.

“They have seen the business grow and have been a huge part of what we have been able to accomplish over the last 65 years.”

“I attended a birthday party two weeks ago of a gentleman that worked for my dad when I first started here and he was celebrating his 90th birthday. There were some people attending that have retired from our business, it was great to catch up and reminisce.”
