More than 40 years after a warrant was issued for his arrest, a NSW man has been extradited brought before a NT courtroom.
NT Police say the 70 year-old man failed to attend court in July 1984 in relation to alleged sexual offending against a young woman, triggering a warrant being for the man’s arrest.
Authorities say they monitored the man’s movements interstate for “some years” before he was extradited from Sydney to Darwin on July 15.
On Wednesday afternoon, the accused, who cannot be identified at this stage of the legal proceedings, appeared in Darwin Local Court charged with sexual assault, aggravated assault and causing bodily harm.
The alleged facts were not read to the courtroom, nor did the defendant make an application for bail.
Judge Stephen Geary adjourned the matter to July 30, 2025.
