A MAN has been charged with assault related offences after he allegedly punched a police officer in the head, and a security officer in the face, during a welfare check.
St John’s responded to a welfare check of a man outside Shiers St, The Narrows.
Northern Watch Commander George Matthews said while St John’s was attending to the man, a Territory Protective Services (TPS) Security Officer assisting paramedics was punched in the face by the man, who had become aggressive.
“Police arrived and when attempting to restrain the male, one of officers was also punched in the head resulting in injuries.”
The man was charged with assault person who suffered harm and assault police.
