NT Police are seeking witnesses to a single-vehicle crash that killed a 47-year-old man earlier this week.

Police said speed and not wearing a seatbelt were likely factors in the driver of the white Mitsubishi Express van losing control of his vehicle, before swerving into a tree shortly after 11pm Monday.

The crash took place on Bagot Rd near Fitzer Drive, with the man ejected from his vehicle and suffering serious injuries as a result of the crash.

St John NT Territory Response Manager Craig Garraway said paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, but he succumbed to his injuries.

No other occupants or surrounding vehicles were involved in the incident.

Police are now looking for witnesses who may have seen the crash or stopped to assist following the incident.

They urge anyone who had been in the area at the specified time to come forward with information or dashcam footage.

Contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, and quote reference number NTP2400015434.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner earlier urged “all motorists to exercise caution when driving in adverse weather conditions”.

“It is paramount that drivers adjust driving habits to ensure the safety of all road users.”

Sergeant Lindner said the man had been identified and his family had been notified of the incident.

The Territory’s 2024 road toll has climbed to nine in February, compared to just one at this time last year.
