The magic is flowing on the stage and captivating audience for the current production of Cinderella at the Townsville Civic Theatre.
Produced by the North Queensland Choral and Musical Theatre the show is follows the 2013 Broadway version where Cinderella is more empowered to change her world to a better place.
Director Brent Lammas said it was a fantastic production of a contemporary fairy tale.
“Cinderella (in this version) is not this victim who has this horrible life and is waiting for someone to pluck her out of that and give her a happily ever after,” he said.
“She’s someone who is very much, very proactive in her own life, very much has a vision of not only what her life might look like, but what the kingdom in which she lives might look like.
“In many ways, it’s actually her that saves the Prince, rather than the other way around, and opens his eyes to the realities around him, but also what the world could be like and what they could shape it to be together.
“It’s very much a 21st century retelling.”
He said there were a number of factors which would surprise the audience.
“It’s a really funny show filled with all kinds of zany characters, lots of humour and lots of magic.
“Also it’s not just a production for kids. It’s something that people of all ages will really enjoy.”
He said tickets were selling fast and but there were still great seats for the evening shows and some available for the matinees.
