Councillor Brooke Patterson was working the floor harder than Question Time at Broadwater Parklands on Thursday, getting physical for the Gold Coast’s first Fitness Festival.
The councillor traded her usual council chambers for hip swivels and body rolls, in a bid to encourage Gold Coasters to get out and get active.
“I had a lot of fun this morning doing the Zumba with the ladies and reminding my body that even though it’s cold, it’s time to get out there,” Patterson said post-workout.
She said the Gold Coast Fitness Festival isn’t about perfect ponytails and Lycra – it’s designed to welcome everyone back to fitness.
“This is not just for the fitness bunnies, this is for all of us,” she said.
“If you haven’t been doing exercise for a while, we’ve put this one for you.
“It’s so important for us all to stay active and healthy while enjoying the outdoors and what better place to do that than here, overlooking the stunning Gold Coast Broadwater.”
Patterson admitted the morning’s activities were also welcome reminder to herself.
“I’m loving that that was work today ... that was so much fun and a real reminder that I should be getting out and doing that more often.”
The free event offers boot scootin’ line dancing, POUND workouts, yoga sessions, and sound healing.
A social sport zone will offer baseball, flag football, and golf activities.
The event is delivered by the City’s Active and Healthy program and is free to attend.
It is held at Broadwater Parklands Sunday, 20 July, from 7am-1pm.
