Logan Wagener has achieved some incredible feats at Leopold’s Memorial Park, but his gruelling efforts over the weekend might just be his best yet.

The three-time Leopold premiership player completed a staggering 24-hour challenge where he ran, rode and rowed non-stop for an entire day to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

That’s one kilometre running, two kilometres on the bike and one kilometre on the rowing machine on repeat for 24 hours.

Incredibly, Wagener completed 62 rounds and 268km across the day, with his support crew notching a further 402 rounds between them.

The enormity of the challenge saw the Leopold and the wider Geelong community generously donate more than $15,000 – more than Wagener wildest expectations, given he set himself an optimistic $500 goal.

People from the across the region joined Wagener throughout his challenge at Memorial Park – where he won the best on ground medal in the 2023 grand final – from 9:45am on Friday to 9:45am on Saturday.

It was a cause close to Wagener’s heart after losing two people close to him to breast cancer and another two close to him being diagnosed.

“We all have someone close to us, either a family member, partner, or close friend that is currently battling breast cancer or has been impacted by breast cancer either directly or vicariously,” Wagener said.

“For me personally I had 2 people who meant a lot to me and my family pass away from breast cancer, and had a close friend’s family member diagnosed. A few months ago one of my close friends got diagnosed with breast cancer so I just wanted to show my support to everyone that I knew that it has affected.

“It was amazing to see so much support from the community and see everyone get behind such an important cause. I hope it helps people impacted by breast cancer feel supported and that I have been able to help in a very small way raise awareness.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me through donations, raffle prizes, cheering me on, those who joined in to some the run/ride/row sets. I am truly humbled and grateful for everyone who was willing to come down and help in any way and to raise over $15,000 is incredible.”

Leopold football manager Hamish Easton witnessed his feats first hand and was taken aback by Wagener’s grit and the community support.

“Proud is an understatement,” Easton said.

“It was amazing to see, and just the willingness and the mental toughness of him to keep doing it and having 1km run, 2km bike ride and 1km row and just do that for 24 hours straight, it was incredible.

“The most pleasing part was the community aspect of it, the footy club, the cricket club were great in opening up the facilities, the footy and netball club, other football clubs people turned up as well which was terrific.

“There was always some senior footballers with him or footballers from other clubs with him throughout the day.”

Wagener flew out on a well deserved trip to Fiji on Sunday morning where he will be soaking up the sun — and surely avoiding the resort gym at all costs.
