INFRASTRUCTURE Minister Eva Lawler has “no interest” in being chief minister and has given her beleaguered boss Michael Gunner her “full support” to continue in the top job.
Ex-Labor member Scott McConnell last week stirred up speculation a leadership challenge was imminent, by claiming the numbers were being done to roll Mr Gunner and install Ms Lawler as chief minister.
Responding to reports a challenge would be mounted should Labor lose either of its Territory federal seats in Saturday’s election, Ms Lawler said Mr McConnell was simply trying to stir up trouble within his ex party.
“There has been no doing the numbers at all,” she said.
“Michael has my full support and I have no interest in being the chief minister of the Northern Territory.”
Mr McConnell, who remains in parliament as an independent was simply “drawing attention to himself”, Ms Lawler claimed.
“We have a great team of people in our Labor team. We are a solid team, we are committed and we’re doing the hard work that needs to be done,” she said.
