From Ntaria (Hermannsburg) in the south to Milikapiti in the north, eight new homes continued to be handed over in remote communities to ease overcrowding across the Northern Territory this week.

The new homes bring the total number delivered since 2016 to 1278 under the $2.2 billion remote housing investment package jointly funded by the Northern Territory and Australian governments.

On Monday, Gwoja MLA Chansey Paech handed over the keys to three new homes in Ntaria, with five currently in progress and 37 already completed under the Remote Housing Investment Package, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.

In the west, Amanbidji received two new homes, with three handed over in the east at Alpurrurula which now has 22 of 24 new homes completed.

The community of Milikapiti is also set to receive 13 new homes, six of which are already completed and soon to be handed over.

Fifteen homes in Milikapiti have also received extension and refurbishment works delivered by NT contractor, DT Hobbs under Room to Breathe.

Minister for Remote Housing and Arnhem MLA Selena Uibo handed over the keys to 11 houses in Wugularr earlier this month and was pleased to see remote families move into new homes ahead of the festive season.

“We will continue to see remote Territorians move into new homes before the end of the year which will make it an extra special Christmas for many Territory families,” she said.

“Better housing means strong communities, job opportunities and closing the gap for Aboriginal Territorians.”

New homes will continue to be rolled out to families in Wadeye, Gapuwiyak, Maningrida, Gunyangara, Kalkarindji, Bulman, Yuendumu, Finke, Ramingining, and Milikapiti between now and early next year.
