Seven people linked to the “Jovi Boys” have been arrested after allegedly stealing a car, driving erratically, and threatening members of the public.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Richard Howie said the alleged Wadeye gang members were arrested on their way into Palmerston at 3.30am Saturday.
He said four adults and three kids were in the car.
Sergeant Howie said the car was allegedly stolen in Wadeye on Friday morning, and the drivers later caused disturbances in Palumpa.
“We got a report from the Daly River police, and then we had some plans in place to try and apprehend that vehicle because we knew it was reading into Darwin,” he said.
Sergeant Howie said police members patrolled the Stuart Hwy and covertly followed the car onto Cox Peninsula Rd where they successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.
Sergeant Howie said the people who “had issues” with the group in communities linked the alleged offenders to the Jovi Boys.
“We didn’t know at the time who they were and haven’t always got all the names of the group that call themselves the Jovi Boys,” he said.
“We certainly were pretty interested in stopping them before they got into town, because the group of that name has caused a few problems when they come in here.”
Sergeant Howie said no charges had been laid while investigations continue.
