The man charged over the death of Leanyer mother and business owner Sheena Fairfield has faced court for the first time.

The Darwin businessman charged over the alleged murder of Sheena Fairfield has faced court for the first time.

Joerg Kloepper, the director of Joerg’s Gardening Service, was charged on Tuesday with Ms Fairfield’s murder.

She was found dead outside her home by her husband, Mick Fairfield, last Thursday.

Kloepper sat in the dock at Darwin Local Court on Wednesday wearing thongs, a blue T-shirt and black shorts with his left arm in what appeared to be a cast.

Kloepper appeared to be in discomfort as he struggled to sit down and stand up, bracing himself against a door frame for support.

Kloepper’s matter was adjourned to January 25 for a preliminary examination mention to allow prosecutors time to gather evidence.

His lawyer Josh Bach did not make a bail application.

“The brief of evidence is being compiled,” prosecutor Victoria Engel said.

“There is still forensic analysis to be completed … hopefully by the 25th of January we’ll know where the matter’s going.”

On Monday, Mr Fairfield told the NT News he had lost his “best friend”.

“I treasured her,” he said.

“We couldn’t be separated.

“We really just stuck together.

“I loved her a lot.”

Kloepper was remanded in custody to appear via video link on January 25.

Investigations into Ms Fairfield’s death are ongoing.
