TWO young people in Don Dale Youth Detention Centre have tested positive for Covid.

Concerned parents contacted the NT News after their Covid-negative child was isolated in the same block as two positive cases.

The Department of Territory Families, who are responsible for Don Dale operations, confirmed two cases were currently isolating in the ‘red zone’ of ‘Bravo Block’.

A spokesman for the department said no operational staff had been impacted.

“There are two young people who are being supported by the youth justice team and Danila Dilba Health Service as they recover from Covid-19 at Don Dale Youth Detention Facility,” he said.

“Bravo Block (B Block as it is known) is being used as the isolation block at Don Dale and has two separate areas, the red zone is for young people with Covid-19 and the orange zone for close contacts or new arrivals.”

The spokesman said there was no contact between young people who were separated by ‘wing areas’.

The NT News understands B Block has been set up as a quarantine block where both female and male children isolate together for seven days.

They are able to virtually visit family or meet with lawyers through a communal iPad.

Sources have told the NT News that, as of this week, visitors have been requested to wear masks again despite them been scrapped months ago.

Furthermore all visitors must return a negative RAT test on arrival.

The positive cases come after a number of children were remanded to Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in the last week.
