Kia Gowler is the first person in her family to attend university.

This impressive feat was made possible through a scholarship awarded by media agency Atomic 212 to Indigenous students hoping to make their university dreams come true.

“I would like to express my gratitude for being awarded the scholarship,” Ms Gowler said.

“It will support me to complete my nursing studies to achieve my goal of becoming a registered nurse.

“As the first person in my family to attend university, I am incredibly proud and grateful for this opportunity.”

Ms Gowler is one of nine Indigenous students who have benefitted from the scholarship since it was first introduced in 2022.

The scholarships give Indigenous students the opportunity to pursue nursing or media studies at Charles Darwin University.

Atomic 212 general manager Damien O’Brien said the scholarships demonstrated his company’s commitment to the Northern Territory and its communities.

“Supporting First Nations education, particularly in vital areas like nursing and media, aligns with our values and our commitment to the NT,” he said.

“We’re proud once again to be doing it this year, and to see the support go to such worthy individuals.”

Ms Gowler was joined by Keitha Virdi as another recipient.

Ms Virdi also hopes to become a nurse.

“A sincere thank you to Atomic 212 for its generous support,” Ms Virdi said.

“Its investment in my education means more than words can fully express.

Atomic 212 P&C business partner Eloise Baker described the selection process as extremely competitive.

“This year we had an exceptionally strong group of applicants,” Ms Baker said.

“It was inspiring to meet such driven individuals and we’re thrilled to support their educational journey.”

Atomic 212° and CDU plan to continue expanding the scholarship program.
