India Fest to return to Riverway, Townsville for 2024

An explosion of colour, captivating performances, and mouth-watering cuisine will soon fill Riverway as India Fest returns to Townsville, marking its 10th year. Check out the exciting line-up.

An explosion of colour, captivating performances, and mouth-watering cuisine will soon fill Riverway as India Fest returns to Townsville, marking its 10th year.

The annual multicultural event, held at the Riverway parkland, returns on Saturday, August 24, promising a day full of community, colour, and culture from 10am onwards.

India Fest, North Queensland’s largest single-day cultural event, attracts between 20,000 to 25,000 attendees every year.

This year’s festival features an exciting line-up of activities, including Bollywood dance performances, Indian dance classes, arts and crafts workshops, and a variety of stalls offering delectable Indian cuisine.

The family-focused event aims to share the rich and diverse culture of India with the people of Townsville.

Performers from Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, and professional performers from Melbourne come to India Fest Townsville each year.

At the launch event on Friday, India Fest spokesman Nick Attam highlighted the remarkable growth of India Fest over the past decade since its inception in 2014.

“India Fest has grown tremendously and has become the biggest community event in Townsville,” he said.

“Every year, we see a footfall of 20,000 attendees in a single day. Our motto of food, fun, and entertainment with cultural exchange truly resonates with the people of Townsville, who love India Fest.”

The President and Treasurer of the India Fest organising committee Dipika Chaudhary extended a warm invitation to the public.

“We are excited to invite everyone to join us for India Fest on 24th August 2024,” she said.

“It’s a day filled with cultural performances, delicious food, and a chance to experience the vibrant traditions of India. We look forward to seeing the community come together and celebrate this wonderful event.”

MP for Mundingburra Les Walker expressed his enthusiasm for the festival.

“Having attended India Fest over the years, I’ve witnessed first-hand the joy and community spirit it brings,” he said.

“It’s heartening to see how our local community embraces the festival, and I am proud of the support it receives from all levels of government.”

“This celebration of Indian culture is a highlight of our annual events and reflects the inclusive spirit of Townsville.”
