Students at Larrakeyah Primary School got to business creating everything from karaoke stalls to obstacle course competitions for their school’s Business Enterprise Marketing Day last week.

On Thursday, a colourful and varied range of 20 new stalls and ‘businesses’ led by Year 5 and 6 students were on display at the school on Packard Street.

Offering food and entertainment, the different creative enterprises were a result of months of planning, designing marketing and developing business acumen.

Stalls offering face painting, smoothies, woodfire pizzas and obstacle course competitions were available for staff, students and parents to try on the day.

Among them was a karaoke stall run by a group of students Isla, Sienna and Viola who offered people the chance to spin a wheel, select a song based on the result and sing their hearts out.

More than 20 people signed up to the tune-filled entertainment.

Among them was teacher George Mamouzellos who commended the stand and the marketing day saying it was a good opportunity for students to build their confidence in a range of skills.

“They are learning valuable life skills including business design, marketing, sales tactics, costs, profit, product promotion, human resources and more while having fun doing it,” he said.

“This is a great example of how Larrakeyah Primary extends students’ learning and involves the school community”.

Year 5 students will be using their profits to raise money for a chosen charity while Year 6 pupils will be putting the funds towards their graduation ball.
