A well-known Huon Valley local has been remembered as the “kindest person you’ll ever meet” after the car he was travelling in with his partner crashed on Sunday.

Aron Thogersen, 43, was driving along Huon Rd in Longley when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and crashed into a bridge around 12.30am, according to Tasmania Police.

He sadly died at the scene.

His partner of more than a decade, Anita Harrison, 43, was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries, where she remains in a stable condition.

Faith Tkalac, who described the couple as her “best mates”, said Ms Harrison would be heartbroken when she wakes from a coma to find her beloved partner is gone.

“Aron and Anita just looked at each other like it was the first time they’ve met,” Ms Tkalac said, holding back tears.

“It’s going to be so sad for her.”

Ms Tkalac, who is currently battling to have a coronial inquest held into her son’s high-profile death, said the couple have supported her through thick and thin.

“They were the only two people that I could go to since I lost my son, where I could just be me.”

She added that the 43-year-old labourer lit up any room with the “biggest smile”.

“He was the kindest person you’ll ever meet,” Ms Tkalac said.

“It’s not gonna be the same without him at all.”

The couple from Ranelagh do not have any children together but both have kids from previous relationships.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the family.

Locals have also paid tribute to Mr Thogersen on social media, with one man remembering him as a “champion”.

“You always made laugh and treated me well,” another person wrote.

“Let the heavens open and look after you.”

Detective Inspector Rebecca Davis appealed to the public for any information regarding the crash.

“Tasmania Police would like to express their sincere condolences to the family. This is another death on Tasmanian roads, and as you know it’s one too many,” she said.

“If you have any information in relation to this crash or any other driving behaviour, please do not hesitate to contact crash investigation services or Crimestoppers.”

Inspector Davis said the entire total road toll for 2021 was 35, while the road toll for 2022 was already at 34.

This time last year the road toll stood at 16.

“What I would like to encourage is for people to be reminded to drive to the conditions, opt for a designated driver, and take care of one another out on the roads,” she said.
