Hriday Nayyar, an aspiring educator from India and finalist in the 2024 Leader of the Year Awards, has launched a book which he hopes reminds readers that they are never alone.

Under dimmed lights and disco balls, Mr Nayyar officially launched his new book Life Chronicles: Experiences and Challenges at the Darwin Waterfront on Wednesday evening.

A finalist at last year’s NT News Leader of the Year Awards, Mr Nayyar’s book reflects on his personal growth and the importance of community connections, with a special focus on the role the Territory has played in his journey.

It also celebrates the Top End as an inspiring destination for international students and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Mr Nayyar moved to Australia six years ago and is currently completing a Bachelors of Education (Secondary) at Charles Darwin University.

He said he hoped his story could draw new faces to the Territory.

“There’s a lot of challenges being an international student,” he said.

“So I wanted this to be a book about celebration, belonging and passion.”

“I didn’t write it for sale purposes; I wrote it because I wanted readers to know that there is always someone behind you and you are not alone.”

Mr Nayyar began writing his book almost two and a half years ago, just after moving from Melbourne to Darwin.

“I saw this as my opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do and I took it,” he said.

Joining his parents, who are also educators, Mr Nayyar said teaching was his passion.

“I really see myself as an educator and teaching those kids,” he said.

“It’s satisfying to me to be able to make a difference in someone else life.”

A number of MLAs including Robyn Cahill, Marie Clare-Boothby, Khoda Patel and Laurie Zio and Country Liberal Party media advisers were present at the launch.
