THE heartbroken family of a five-year-old Territory boy who died in a horror car crash on Tuesday morning has paid tribute to the cheeky little kid with a “beautiful soul”.
Dmitri Charles Mulhall was in a 4WD being driven by his 27-year-old dad when the car veered off Cheeney Rd, Stapleton and rolled – hurling the boy from the car.
The young father was able to free himself from the upturned and crumpled 4WD.
Dmitri’s aunt, Donna Louise Foster, said the boy had “touched a lot of hearts” with his sweet, cheeky personality.
“Little beautiful soul taken way too soon from loved ones you will never be forgotten and forever missed,” she said.

Dmitri’s extended family also paid tribute to the much-loved boy.
“Our family is so blessed to have our peetree in our lives,” they said.
“Your cheeky smile has blessed our hearts, The never ending questions will never surpass. So rest our little man cause we thank God you were here, but keep him close to the ones lost so dear. And rest our peetree cause we will always keep you here.
“Love poppa Scott, Nanna Rhonda, and aunties Marlee, Tammy, Belinda, Julie and uncle Pat and Ned.”
In a public post on Facebook, Dmitri’s mum spoke of her heartbreak.
“My baby I’ll never see you again,” she wrote.
“It seems so surreal I cannot describe what I feel my baby darling boy Dmitri.
“All I want is to hold you in my arms again just one time over and over again.”
An NT Health spokeswoman said Dmitri’s 27-year-old father was still at Royal Darwin Hospital but had been moved from the facility’s intensive care unit.
NT Police were notified of the rollover at 5.45am on Tuesday but Major Crash Unit officer in charge detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said the crash could have happened hours earlier.

Sen-Sgt Lindner said there was a child restraint in the car, but could not say if it was being used at the time of the crash.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit will investigate if alcohol, drugs or speed were factors in the crash.
It is the 20th death on Territory roads this year.
