POPULAR Darwin Thai restaurant Hanuman has been broken into overnight and its fed-up owner says he is seriously considering leaving town.
Hanuman owner and popular restaurateur Jimmy Shu said the break-in was the seventh in seven months at the Mitchell St establishment.
The break-in was reported to police about 1am Friday morning and one person was arrested at the scene.
The thieves broke into the high-end restaurant via the front entrance and stole alcohol.
Some alcohol has been recovered.
Speaking from overseas, Hanuman’s owner Jimmy Shu said he was distraught after receiving the groundhog day call regarding another break-in at his restaurant.
“I feel hopeless, angry and frustrated,” Mr Shu told the NT News over the phone.
“Who do we turn to? The police? The government? Who do we turn to?”
Mr Shu, who had only just overhauled his security system, was at a loss for how he can keep his business safe in the future,
“Despite all these upgrades, the bastards still went in … someone could well get hurt,” he said.
“My message is what more should I do to stop this? What more can I do? We can’t afford losses in this economic climate.”
Mr Shu said the full extent of damage is not yet known and the losses were “sure to be in the thousands”.
