TOP Darwin school Haileybury Rendall has announced its school fees for 2020.

In 2020, Junior School fees will increase by 10 per cent and the ELC, Middle and Senior School fees by 8 per cent.

In a letter to parents and guardians, chairman Tom Poulton said “this year has seen Haileybury Rendall School continue its journey towards being the leading independent school in the Northern Territory.”

“A wonderful measure of our success is the growth in our enrolments,” he wrote.

“This year we started with 555 students. We expect that in 2020 we will have close to 700 students. Of those 700 students, there will be approximately 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boarders, making Haileybury Rendall School one of Australia’s largest providers of education to remote First Nations students.

“The majority of our enrolment growth in the day component of the School has been from ELC to Year 7. The ELC is full for 2020 and there will be two classes in all except one year level in the Junior School.”

ESSINGTON VS HAILEYBURY: NEW SCHOOL WAR IN DARWIN

Mr Poulton said: “Our aim is to replicate the high quality of Haileybury Melbourne’s program, which last year saw it named the Australian School of the Year. We have regular visits from Melbourne staff who are supporting and advising our teachers as they strive to raise standards and outcomes.”

Most of the staff at the school will receive a 2.5 per cent salary increase in 2020.

Mr Poulton said the school board needed to “adjust the fees to ensure the long-term financial viability of the School.”
“If these increases are higher than expected, they still do not make Haileybury Rendall School more expensive than our main competitor,” he said.

“It needs to be stressed that the School will always strive to ensure that its fees are competitive in the Darwin market.

“There is absolutely no intention of the fees increasing to the levels of mid and high fee schools. We believe that they will never approach the levels of Haileybury Melbourne.”

Mr Poulton added: “When comparing to other schools this needs to be taken into account as most other independent schools in Darwin have numerous additional levies.”

“With Haileybury Rendall School, what you see is what you get,” he said.
