A Gold Coast school principal has described a staff member who tragically died in a car crash on the way to work as a “gentle giant who adored his family”.

On July 18, emergency services rushed to the scene of a car crash on Guineas Creek Rd in Elanora at around 5.40am.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said a car had collided with a power pole next to the Elanora Library.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, 56-year-old Scott Adams from Tallebudgera died at the scene.

Currumbin State School principal John Cattoni has shared a touching tribute for their groundsman, ‘Scotty’.

“Scotty was first and foremost a gentle giant who adored his family,” he said.

Mr Cattoni said Scott had been a “reliable” and “hard worker” at the school for the past 17 years.

“Scotty had a wicked sense of humour,” he said.

Mr Cattoni said Mr Adams would help prepare for school sports days, concerts, assemblies and special events.

“Scotty would always ensure our pool was safe to swim in, move furniture when teachers moved classrooms, got balls off of rooves and out of trees, mowed the grass, trimmed the trees, fixed fences, the list is endless,” he said.

“Scotty will be sorely missed, not just for the amount of work he did for our school, but because he was a great bloke who enjoyed a good yarn.”

Mr Cattoni notified fellow staff and students about Mr Adams’ passing last Thursday morning.

“We will provide support and guidance counselling for anyone who needs it and for as long as it is required,” he said.

“As a community, we will rally together and support each other during this difficult time.”

On July 24, the coroner was still investigating the cause of death.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to call 131 444.
