Police have allegedly uncovered million of dollars worth of drugs during raids across the Gold Coast targeting trafficking, with three people arrested. Read what they found

Operation Xray Vent, Gold Coast

A drug trafficking bust has allegedly uncovered millions of dollars in meth, cannabis and heroin, as the Gold Coast records its worst year for drug crime in nearly a decade.

Officers from the Crime and Intelligence Command Drug and Serious Crime Group launched Operation Xray Vent in January following intelligence about an alleged ring.

“Investigations resulted in the execution of eight search warrants on Tuesday at locations in Nerang, Arundel, Spring Creek and Park Ridge,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman (QPS) said in a statement.

“At a storage facility in Nerang and a residence in Arundel, detectives located approximately 1.5 kilograms of heroin, 21 kilograms of methylamphetamine, 24.5 kilograms of cannabis, $411,205 cash, mobile phones and two money counters.

“The total estimated combined value of the drugs is $3.47 million.”

Three men aged 52, 26 and 44 have been charged with a string of offences including possessing and trafficking dangerous drugs.

Detective Inspector Brad Phelps from the Drug and Serious Crime Group said the drugs were destined to end up on Gold Coast streets.

“These are high-harm drugs allegedly for distribution by an organised crime syndicate, with the sole aim of profiting at the expense of the community,” Detective Inspector Phelps said.

“The use of illicit drugs impacts the wider community through links to road trauma and offences of violence, including domestic violence.”

The bust by police comes just days after the Bulletin revealed drug-related offending across the city is at its highest level in close to a decade. There were 10,128 drug-related offences recorded in 2024, a whopping 82 per cent increase in four years compared to the 5556 in 2021.
