Police have launched an investigation to find who was responsible for leaving a chemical substance at a Gold Coast home that prompted an evacuation of surrounding properties.
Emergency services were called to Rotary Park Rd at about 10am on Thursday after the chemical was found at the house.
Six Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) units attended the scene, with neighbouring properties evacuated and a 100 metre exclusion zone established while experts worked to establish the nature of the substance.
The exclusion zone was lifted some time later and the area declared safe by firefighters, with a probe launched by police into how the chemical came to be at the property.
“Police are investigating following an incident involving a chemical being left at a private residence in Alberton earlier today,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.
“Emergency services were called to Rotary Park Rd at about 10am after an unknown substance was located at a property.
“As a precaution the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service established an exclusion zone which has now been cancelled.
“Tests were conducted on the substance and there were no threats to the community.
“Police investigations are continuing.”
