Gold Coast trams resume after commuters left stranded for hours

Gold Coast tram services are returning to normal after a power issue left commuters in the lurch for hours between Southport and Broadbeach this morning. What we know so far.

Gold Coast tram services are slowly returning to normal after a powerline fault suspended trips between Southport and Broadbeach leaving commuters in the lurch for several hours.

GoldlinQ services were brought to a halt just after 8.30am on Monday between Southport South and Broadbeach South stations due to the issue affecting the overhead power lines.

Passengers were left in limbo for about an hour and half until replacement bus service commenced at 10am - an updated posted to Translinks website at 11.30 advised commuters to expect delays.

A GoldlinQ spokesman confirmed services were beginning to return to normal at about 12.30.

At this stage there is no further information on the cause of the fault.
