Patrons hoping to get in for a feed or flutter at The Star’s Brisbane and Gold Coast casinos, have until midnight tonight - or sooner.

Events scheduled across the Gold Coast this week have been rescheduled, cancelled – or are still up in the air – as Cyclone Alfred approaches.

Here’s what we know:

The Star Gold Coast and Queen’s Wharf Brisbane: closed from midnight Wednesday

The Star’s gaming floors will also close from midnight on Wednesday with car parks and most of the dining, bars and entertainment venues to be shut earlier, with a staged closure

of many food and beverage outlets throughout Wednesday.

The Sky Deck at The Star Brisbane will close from midday Wednesday.

Organisers of events scheduled for both properties have been contacted.

The Star Grand hotel at both properties will remain operating with limited facilities including food and beverage to accommodate those guests with existing bookings and essential staff who remain on site following the shelter in place directive of the Queensland Government.

Hotel guests who do have upcoming bookings have been advised to postpose their stays at the two resorts if possible.

Across both properties safety precautions have been implemented. All loose items have been secured and stored, furniture items removed from balconies, supplementary power supplies boosted, team members have been briefed and evacuation plans have been communicated.

Both resorts anticipate they will continue closures on Thursday and into Friday but decisions on reopening will be flexible, depending on the weather.

2025 Australian WPGA Championship, Sanctuary Cove: cancelled

The tournament was meant to kick off on Thursday and run through to Sunday but was officially cancelled on Tuesday morning with a statement released by the PGA of Australia.

The cancellation could prove to have a major long term blow for the city as Gold Coast powerbrokers had hoped this competition could be used as an Olympics audition, with the Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club submitted in the 100 day review of Olympic venues.

Green Day concert, Cbus Super Stadium Robina: cancelled

The only Queensland show by ’90s rock legends Green Day, scheduled for up to 30,000 fans at Cbus Super Stadium on Wednesday night, has been cancelled.

After days of speculation, the stadium confirmed “extreme weather conditions” had won over.

“We know how excited fans were for the concert,” a statement on their website said.

“Concert organisers explored every opportunity to go ahead with the event, but the safety and travel certainty of concert goers, performers and staff cannot be ensured under current conditions.

“Patrons will be contacted about refunds directly by Ticketmaster.”

As far as the stadium and Tour promoter Live Nation were concerned, the show was still going ahead as of Tuesday afternoon.

Fan speculation was in overdrive after lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong told Monday night’s Sydney audience “this might be the last time we ever play Dookie and American Idiot in full”.

A statement from the stadium on Monday said any announcements regarding show delay, postponement or cancellation due to weather conditions would come from the promoter.

At 12.30pm, Cbus Super Stadium said the weather conditions were still being monitored and that it would “aim to provide another update at 2pm”.

Tickets were still available for sale on Live Nation’s website at 2.15pm.

Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships: cancelled

The competition was scheduled to be held at North Kirra from March 7 to 9 but was called off by Surf Life Saving Queensland organisers on Monday afternoon.

“The safety of our competitors, officials and staff come first,” Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships carnival committee chair Nigel Ward said.

Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final competition: postponed

Surfing Australia will duck dive the swells of Tropical Cyclone Alfred by postponing the Australian Boardriders Battle to a later date.

The annual event was set to run at Burleigh Heads over Saturday and Sunday but will be rescheduled for safety concerns, with a revised date to be announced at 12pm AEST.

“Due to forced measures, and based on official weather models and advice from the Bureau of Meteorology, council and emergency services authorities, we have made this decision in the interest of the safety of all competitors, staff, and spectators,” Surfing Australia said in a statement.

“Safety remains our highest priority. Forecast conditions indicate that it will not be safe to run the event or for competitors and officials to travel. Event officials have been closely monitoring the system in accordance with our risk management protocols and have determined that postponement is the most responsible course of action.”

AFL opening games of the season: postponed

The AFL has binned two of its first games of the season as Tropical Cyclone Alfred looms off the Queensland coast.

The first match, Brisbane v Geelong, was scheduled to take place at the Gabba on Thursday, while the Gold Coast Suns were set to take on Essendon at 4.15pm on Saturday at People First Stadium.

Both games new fixtures are yet to be announced.

Rugby League Gold Coast 9s: cancelled

The pre-season Rugby League Gold Coast 9s competition at Helensvale Hornets has been cancelled.

The carnival was set to bring together A Grade, Opens, under-20s and under-18 teams on Saturday March 8.

District chairman Wayne Court said safety concerns meant the event could not proceed.

Miami Marketta, markets and entertainment: closed Wednesday-Thursday

The popular southern Gold Coast venue will not open on Wednesday and Thursday as the operators continue to monitro the weather situation.

A decision is yet to be made for Friday.

Theme Parks: most attractions closed Wednesday-Friday

Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World, Wet’n’Wild, Paradise Country, Australian Outback Spectacular and Topgolf will be closed from Wednesday until Friday.

Sea World Resort will remain open.

The parks said plans were in place to protect animals who live in the parks, and that a decision about whether they would open on Saturday was yet to be made.

Guests with specific camping or animal encounter bookings will be contacted directly.

Dreamworld, WhiteWater World, and SkyPoint will be closed from Wednesday, March 5, planning to reopen Saturday, March 8, pending further weather assessments.
