An airline has announced a new unique offering which will fly Gold Coasters to a regional beachside city in a small 19-seat plane.
On Wednesday regional airline FlyPelican announced they were launching a new service from Gold Coast Airport to its headquarters in Newcastle.
FlyPelican CEO Marty Hawley said 19 people will be able to fly on board their Jetstream 32 aircraft from $245 one way.
“FlyPelican are thrilled to expand our network, with our focus on getting local people where they need to go,” he said.
“We are now filling a key gap for travellers to and from the Gold Coast that are in need of a morning departure.”
Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said the new service was very welcome, with about 110,000 passengers from Newcastle passing through Gold Coast Airport each year.
“The convenience these new flights offer will help drive business opportunities, enhancing economic growth across the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales,” she said.
The new service will operate four days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from Monday March 24.
Each 1.5 hour flight will depart Newcastle at 7am and will have a 30-minute turnaround before leaving Gold Coast.
