Work is chugging along on a new train station at Merrimac, with new images released showing how it will look when completed.

Merrimac is one of three locations across the Gold Coast getting a new train station as part of the Cross River Rail project, with Hope Island and Pimpama stations also under construction.

The new station will be located off Gooding Drive, east of the M1 and Gooding Drive Interchange (Exit 77), with major construction expected to be complete in 2026.

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said “extensive community consultation” had taken place when designing the station.

“Just like at Pimpama and Hope Island, when designing Merrimac station, we’ve made sure

to take the needs of the local community into account and the final design is one of a

modern, accessible train station,” he said.

“From high-level platforms to the enhanced wayfinding around the station and through lifts

on both platforms, this is a station for everyone.

“When open, Merrimac station will not only expand options for travel in and around the Gold

Coast, but also for passengers on their way to Brisbane.

“Great progress is being made on site and we are looking forward to seeing the design come

to life.”

Major earthworks for the Merrimac station precinct and carpark have been completed on site, while more than 250 screw piles have been installed for the station’s platform foundations.

Work is also continuing apace at Hope Island, where columns and girders have been erected to support the station platforms and lift shafts have been installed.

At Pimpama, the pedestrian overpass and stairs have been installed and the construction of station platforms and drainage and utility works are underway.
