Dog saves family from venomous brown snake, Tugun

A rescue dog has leapt inbetween a deadly brown snake and a man about to step on it. Read about dramatic save.

A rescue dog saved from a Sunshine Coast pound at just 11-weeks-old has returned his dues, saving his human family from a lethal 1.5m brown snake.

The dog, Echo, now one-and-a-half in human years stepped between what is considered the world’s second-most venomous land snake and Colleen James’ son, Mark on their Tugun property.

“Our son was sitting out the backyard with the dog and the dog started carrying on,” Mrs James said.

“He got up to go and see what Echo was barking at and he almost stepped on the snake – except Echo came across in front of him and saved him from stepping on it because my son couldn’t see it.”

“He didn’t know what the dog was barking at, so when he went to put his foot down, Echo ran in front and stopped him.”

CCTV footage captured the incident which took place last week.

“He’s such a smart dog – I swear to God he’s got some human in him,” Mrs James said.
