Blaze and Maggie hope to find forever home in time for Christmas

Stolen by heartless thieves from a Gold Coast animal shelter, abandoned then left on the shelf by hundreds of potential adopters, Blaze the husky is overdue a happy ending.

Meet Blaze and Maggie who have been in a shelter for three months

Blaze could be Queensland’s unluckiest dog.

The white Siberian husky, 9, was stolen by heartless thieves from a Gold Coast animal shelter and abandoned.

Just when he thought he’d found his forever family, he was returned to the shelter where he is still patiently waiting — three months later.

Now, he and his best friend Maggie have one wish for Christmas: to find their forever home.

Blaze and seven-year-old border collie Maggie were first placed into the Gold Coast Animal Welfare League’s (AWLQ) care in September, putting them among the Coombabah facility’s longest-stay residents.

“They are now a bonded pair and have lived together for quite some time. We cannot separate them,” AWLQ spokeswoman Caroline Esera said.

He’s had a ruff time. A month into living in the shelter on October 19, Blaze was stolen and found the next morning wandering around Harbour Town.

“We don’t really know what exactly happened to him, but we’re just so relieved he was unharmed,” Ms Esera said.

“He’s a resilient boy. It was Maggie and the rest of the team at AWLQ who were beside themselves.”

Lapping up the attention following his adventure, staff where overjoyed when Blaze and Maggie were adopted into a “loving home” a week later.

The happy ending was sadly cut short when they were returned to the shelter due to the new owners having severe allergies.

“Even though it was temporary, it still gave Blaze and Maggie the opportunity of a loving home and a reprieve from the shelter,” Ms Esera said.

Blaze and Maggie now have just over a month to find their forever home in time for Christmas.

“They have been very patiently waiting for their new family, which is impressive considering how long they’ve been with us,” Ms Esera said.

“They truly deserve to find their family home before Christmas.”

Ms Esera said the fluffy duo were low maintenance and would be perfect to live with a family, a couple or an individual.

“They are happy just to hang out in the AC,” she said.

“They really just love people and are very affectionate, so it would be great to see them go to a home where someone will be happy to spend time with them, give them a walk a day and a regular brush to keep their coats fluffy.”
