GFL Stats: Matt Boag dominates again in round 17 action

One of the GFL’s premier midfielder has fallen short of the league’s season-high disposal tally, while a young star had his best game of the season. Check out all of the stats here.

He has missed most of the GFL season with an array of injuries, but St Albans star Sam Donegan is finally back to his best to end the footy season.

The young midfielder collected 31 disposals (19 contested) and laid nine tackles, which was enough to lead the league for the round, in the loss to Leopold.

He also booted three goals and had nine clearances in his best game for the season, having been restricted to just nine games of football this year.

Eagle Matthew Boag once again led the competition in the ball-winning category, with the Mathieson Medal fancy dominant against Lara.

He was one of five Newtown & Chilwell players to have at least 33 touches, with Boag recording 47 touches.

His teammates Ned Harris (38), Matty Lloyd (38), Matthew McMahon (33) and Mitch Diamond (33) all had huge days, while five other players had at least 20 touches as well.

Swan Rowan Gough’s defensive efforts on St Mary’s star Sam Dobson could not be understated, holding the competition’s leading goal scorer to just one major in the upset victory.

Gough recorded just seven disposals, but led the league with nine spoils, well ahead of the second-placed Tom Rieniets, who recorded six for Colac.

North Shore almost upset Geelong West at the weekend, with the starring performance from Joseph Salmon a major reason the Seagulls almost got across the line.

He led the competition for inside 50s with 10, while also finishing with nine clearances from his 36 disposals.

On the other side, Giants co-skipper David Handley was dominant with 32 disposals, 11 clearances and eight inside 50s.
