Construction has started at a new yet-to-be-named state primary school in Charlemont.
The facility will be built at 10 Amber Ave, across from the Charlemont Rise land development between Amber Ave and Horseshoe Bend Rd and is expected to hold up to 525 students.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said the new primary school was being called Horseshoe Bend Primary School until a name was chosen.
“The new Horseshoe Bend Primary School will open in term 1, 2026, offering a great education, close to home for up to 525 local students,” she said.
“The school’s inaugural principal is expected to be appointed in term 2, 2025, before enrolments open for prep to grade 6.”
The land was earmarked for the facility in 2022, in the hope that it would help meet the increasing demand from the area’s growing local population.
The school site was bought as part of $237m used to acquire land for 15 future schools, allocated in the 2022-23 state budget, and shared in $948m allocated for new school construction.
The school will be built next to Charlemont Rise Shopping Centre currently under construction on the corner of Horseshoe Bend Road and Precinct Road.
Kane Constructions, the company behind the $50m GMHBA headquarters on Moorabool St and the $29m Geelong Arts Centre redevelopment, has been appointed builder of the school, with construction scheduled to start on Friday, August 23.
Details on how to enrol children, including enrolment boundaries, will be published in the year before the school opens.
