Two Geelong brothers who were allegedly found in an unregistered car with over 40 grams of cannabis have faced court.

Torquay man Patrick Caddaye-Rose, 25, pleaded guilty in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court to possessing a drug of dependence and was placed on a good behaviour bond without conviction.

His younger brother Felix Caddaye-Rose, 24, appeared via a remand centre and was given a sentencing indication of court-ordered time in a rehabilitation centre for a charge of carjacking.

Felix Caddaye-Rose has not yet entered a plea.

In June, police intercepted an unregistered vehicle and found both brothers at the front of the car with 41 grams of cannabis stashed between them in the centre console.

Patrick Caddaye-Rose took responsibility for the drugs, with his defence lawyer Daniel Clarke telling the court he got into the drugs with friends when he was younger but had since “grown out of it”.

Mr Clarke said Patrick Caddaye-Rose, who manages the Bloom nightclub on Moorabool St, does not have any prior criminal matters.

Magistrate John Bentley told Patrick Caddaye-Rose he would not convict him on the basis he entered a good behaviour bond, meaning he cannot commit a crime in the next year or will risk a re-sentence.

“The best thing you can do to be supportive of your brother is deal with your own problem. You don’t want to end up like your brother, do you?” Mr Bentley asked Patrick Caddaye-Rose.

Lawyer for Felix Caddaye-Rose, Matilda Jones, said her client has “unchecked mental health issues” and has dabbled in both alcohol and drugs, including “using heroin and ice” regularly.

Mr Bentley said the “serious drugs” would not be dealt with in prison and told him he would rather see him in a rehabilitation centre.

“The offending is incredibly serious,” Mr Bentley said.

“I’m reading between the lines here that he’s got a severe drug addiction that a couple months in prison is not going to fix. Rehabilitation is probably his best road forward.”

Mr Bentley adjourned Felix Caddaye-Rose’s matter for two weeks so Ms Jones could find a rehabilitation centre that would admit him.

He will return to court to enter an official plea and be sentenced.
