The people of Geelong have spoken, crowning the region’s best gym buffs.
Juanito Ramos and Jordan Babolka were both shocked when they found out they had claimed the unique title of Geelong’s top gym guy and girl, respectively.
“It is definitely not something I ever expected,” Ms Babolka said.
Mr Ramos received 29 out of 114 votes in the men’s category and Ms Babolka received 17 out of 102 votes in the women's.
Mr Ramos said he has always been a sporty kid growing up, having played football, basketball and tennis.
“When I finished high school, I started to go to the gym a bit more and take it more seriously,” he said.
The 19-year-old trains six days a week at Derrimut Gym in Corio and said he is proud of himself for the progress he has made in the gym.
Ms Ramos said the fitness community is one of his biggest motivators, especially on the days when he doesn’t feel like working out.
“If I’m tired and don’t want to go to the gym, it definitely helps when one of my mates messages me to go with them,” he said.
“The social aspect helps a lot with motivation.”
Ms Babolka competed in her first bodybuilding and physique competition six years ago and plans to compete in the World Beauty Fitness and Fashion (WBFF) show on the Gold Coast in April.
“I love it ... it is a lifestyle for me now,” she said.
“(Prep) is pretty cruisy at the moment but it will ramp up soon.”
The 29-year-old typically trains in the morning, waking up at 4am to work out and get some steps in before heading to her office job for the day.
“It’s a big balance but I am a morning person,” she said.
Ms Babolka said she has an “amazing” team of coaches and friends around her, motivating her to continue striving for her best.
“I thrive in a challenging environment,” she said.
“I love working through discomfort and seeing how far I can push myself.”
