From fish shop fisticuffs to scraps on the sand, some shocking Geelong fights have been caught on camera
The Addy has trawled the archives from the past two years to put the spotlight on some of the unwelcome and violent behaviour in the streets.
CHIP SHOP DUST UP
Last month, footage emerged of two men having a not-so-polite discussion outside a Norlane fish-and-chip shop in Geelong’s north.
The colourful language used by the gentlemen during the disagreement – believed to be over money – forced this masthead to mute the video’s audio, but the animosity between the two was clear, and fists were thrown.
Neither men was afraid of the other – something they took particular care to tell the world.
“You think I’m scared of you? No c*** is scared of you, Rob,” one of the men said.
“I’m not scared of you either,” the other man replied.
ROAD RAGE RUMBLE
The fish shop dust up came weeks after a wild road rage brawl was captured on film.
The nasty argument between two men erupted on Melbourne Rd on August 5.
Peak hour commuters were left to watch in awe, as two men got out of their cars near the intersection of Bacchus Marsh Rd in Norlane and throwing a flurry of punches.
A witness said the pair was driving erratically before the spicy exchange.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said at the time there was “no offence reported” and “all parties had left the scene upon police arrival”.
RYRIE ST TUSSLE
A shipowner was left bloodied after a wild exchange with a shirtless tradie in Geelong’s CBD in July this year.
A tradie - unmasked as serial bad driver Brandon Juresko - and a got into an altercation outside a Ryrie St convenience store just before 2.30 on July 23.
A witness told the Addy the fight was sparked after a staff member asked another customer for identification, prompting Juresko to allegedly become aggressive and challenging the owner to “step outside”.
After the brawl, Juresko - who lost his licence in 2023 for four years - was captured getting behind the wheel and driving off.
No charges had been laid in relation to the brawl as of last month.
WILD WESTFIELD
Geelong’s precocious youth aren’t about to let the grown-ups get all the action.
In January, footage began making the rounds of a wild food court brawl in Westfield Shopping Centre.
The fight, believed to have involved up to eight youths, occurred at about 3pm on January 10.
According to witness reports, a gang of youths ganged up on another teen sitting down to eat.
One witness, who didn’t want to be named, said the scene was “pretty confronting”.
Eight teens were arrested over the incident, issued with caution notices and later released.
BEACHSIDE BRAWL
And why wouldn’t Geelong’s youth resort to violence, with some of the examples being set?
The holidays are a time of coming together and fostering a sense of community.
For most people, that is.
In December 2022, residents of a sleepy Bellarine hamlet were left “disgusted” when an all-out brawl broke out at one of the region’s most popular beaches.
More than four people - allegedly adults - were involved in a brazen melee in Ocean Grove that spiralled out of control and left “blood on the path”.
Footage of the scuffle showed people swinging punches, kicks, stomps and more - all in full view of families with children.
