A popular Thomson kebab shop could be making a return this week after the store was destroyed when a car rammed through its front.

Kebabman has been closed since a driver crashed into the front of the shop on January 25.

Now, after almost five months, owner Lillian Assad has taken to social media to tell customers of the store’s upcoming reopening.

“At the end of January, unfortunately, we had a person drive into the shop accidentally, and obviously damage the shop,” Ms Assad said.

“Thank god no one was hurt, thank god no one got injured, so that’s the main important thing.

“We’re getting the reno done … so (this) week, hopefully everything should be done by the end of the week, we’re hoping to be back on the 19th of May, but I’ll keep everyone posted about everything.”

Ms Assad said the biggest issue with getting the store back up and running was dealing with insurance.

“It took a very long time to pick a builder and obviously getting a builder to get the time to come out and do the work,” she said.

“That’s another thing as well.

“So I’m glad we’re back, I’ve missed all of you, I’ve missed making kebabs.

“It was a good few months off, we needed it to be honest, but I’m broke, but that’s fine.

“Can’t wait to see you all.”

The damage occurred after a driver in her 60s lost control before driving over a pedestrian footpath and crashing through the shopfront of the store on Boundary Rd in Thomson on January 25.

One witness said the collision was “so loud” and it was “lucky nobody was on the footpath”.

The kebab shop was not open at the time of the crash.

The Lucky 7 convenience shop, located four stores down from Kebabman, was gutted by flames in November last year after twice being hit with firebombs.

Police believe the store was the victim of mistaken identity.
