Police arrest two people after Corio Village Shopping Centre fight

Two people are on the run from police after a fight at the Corio Village Shopping Centre.

Two men are on the run from police and two people have been arrested after a fight involving a machete in Corio on Thursday night.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Kathryn Muffett said officers believed a brawl broke out about 9.30pm.

“Two groups of people became involved in a verbal dispute in the car park of a shopping centre at the intersection of Purnell and Bacchus Marsh roads about 9.30pm.” Ms Muffett said.

“The incident has turned physical involving an unknown man armed with a machete from one group and a 28-year-old man and 21-year-old woman from the second group.

“Two males, including the man armed with the machete, fled the scene in a vehicle which was later located and seized by police from a residential street in Norlane.”

The fight took place in the car park of the Corio Village Shopping Centre at the corner of Purnell and Bacchus Marsh roads.

Police arrested the 28-year-old Hamlyn Heights man, who sustained minor injuries, and 21-year-old Norlane woman at the scene for affray.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said: “(We were) called to a report of an incident in Corio just after 9:30pm last night. No emergency treatment or transport was required.”
