The kayaker who died in the waters off the Bellarine Peninsula on Thursday has been remembered as a “true gentleman” who loved being on the water.

Newcomb resident Christopher Munro, 52, died while kayaking in Indented Head this week, after a passer-by noticed his overturnedkayak in the water off the Esplanade about 11am on Thursday.

One of Mr Munro’s siblings provided a short statement on Friday, remembering their beloved brother.

“He actually left doing what he loved most,” sister Vicki Garner said. “He was a true gentleman, he loved his cars, he lovedthe water, and he was out for a good time.”

It is understood police, who will prepare a report for the coroner, have determined Mr Munro’s death as non-suspicious.

A passer-by located an overturned kayak in the water off the Esplanade at Indented Head just after 11am on Thursday.

Victoria Police confirmed 52-year-old Newcomb man was found attached to the kayak.

Witnesses reported seeing two police boats pulling the kayak from the water in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Investigations are ongoing, and the cause of death is yet to be determined but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
