Norlane woman Daniela Damevska was diagnosed with breast cancer the same year it tragically took the life of her cousin in 2022.

Today, she stands as living proof of the invaluable work of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), which has been supported every year in May by the Bakers Delight’s Pink Bun fundraiser – now in its 25th year.

Ms Damevska is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene and said the support she received from the network during her cancer battle was life changing.

The now 48-year-old underwent six months of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, with her final surgery scheduled in October.

Ms Damevska said the network helped her in many ways.

“Whatever I needed, they were there, providing meals, support during surgery, and group therapy,” she said.

“You would never guess how much support they provide at every step.”

Ms Damevska said the loss her cousin during her own cancer battle made the journey even more difficult.

“It’s important (to raise awareness) because it could be your sister, daughter, or even yourself who needs that support.”

“That’s who you’re helping when you buy a Pink Bun,” she said.

Since its inception, the campaign has raised more than $27m, ensuring BCNA can provide crucial information and support to the more than 21,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

BCNA chief executive officer Kirsten Pilatti said the campaign allowed the organisation to be a powerful voice for Australians affected by breast cancer.

Pink Buns will be on sale from May 1-25.
