The Great Ocean Road’s peak authority has unveiled its plans to reshape a popular tourist town on the celebrated ocean route.
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCPA) has released its draft Kennett River precinct plan and draft Caravan Park master plan for community feedback.
According to the organisation, the plan seeks to make the township of Kennett River a place for all to enjoy, while balancing an improved experience for locals and visitors and safeguarding its unique character.
The plan also seeks to enhance Kennett River’s usable public open space and increase green zones along the service road, riverbank, and in front of the town’s eatery and store – Kafe Koala.
Parking upgrades are also included, with new parks and the formalisation of informal parks into 90-degree spaces.
A single long-vehicle parking bay will accommodate caravans, towing vehicles, and motorhomes, simplifying movement in and out of Kennett River.
Upgrades for a roundabout and public toilets are included in the plans.
GORCPA acting director of infrastructure and planning Mark Davies said he was “pleased” to share the draft plans.
“The plans, shaped by technical evidence and feedback from the community and key partners, aim to highlight what people value most about this incredible place,” Mr Davies said.
“The plan outlines a range of much-needed improvements while protecting everything that makes the area so special.
“I encourage everyone with a connection to Kennett River to join us at an upcoming online
information session to find out more and have a say.”
The draft precinct plan, alongside an “Opportunities and Constraints Summary Report”, and the draft Kennett River Family Caravan Park master plan are now available to view online, with community engagement open from Monday, March 3 to midnight on Sunday, March 23.
