A pair of good Samaritans have helped a woman who was involved in a scary crash believed to be caused by a medical episode.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash on McKillop St near the intersection of Yarra St about 12.30pm.

A witness said the female driver was travelling west before losing control and going over the median strip.

The car missed a large power pole and a number of cars that were parked nearby before slamming into a brick wall and a tree.

A pair of bystanders jumped into action, breaking the passenger side window with a dislodged pole and checking on her condition.

The front left of the car was badly damaged.

One of them said the woman was unconscious, but regained consciousness a short time later.

The good Samaritans said they told the woman to remain in the car while paramedics from the ambulance station metres away arrived.

“You should’ve heard the bang,” one of the men said.

A number of emergency services responded to the crash, including firefighters and police.

Police remained on scene, closing the right lane to traffic.

The car, wedged between the tree and wall, was still in place just after 1pm.

The front left of the car was destroyed by the car, while its back window had also been smashed in the impact.

No airbags deployed during the crash.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said “a Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) and two Advanced Life Support (ALS) attended the scene”.

“One person has been transported to Geelong Hospital,” she said.
