A man crushed by his own car after stopping to change a tyre is being remembered as a “beautiful person” and devoted family man.

The heartbroken relatives of Tavis Carter, 33, have spoken glowingly of the dedicated father-of-three after his life was cut short in a freak accident on the Geelong Ring Road.

Mr Carter was killed when his car fell off the jack on the busy highway in Highton early Friday morning, with paramedics and police unable to save him.

He was on his way to work at Carbon Revolution, where he had been a much loved night shift group leader for the past eight years.

“He loved his kids and his wife and was a beautiful person,” his sister-in-law, Stevie Thomas, said.

It’s understood his vehicle was on a slight lean as he attempted to retrieve a nut that had rolled under the car before tragedy struck.

Mr Carter was born and raised in Geelong and leaves behind three children, aged 17, eight and seven.

Ms Thomas said he was a keen hockey enthusiast and “just adored his kids and family.”

“He would always come home to be with them,” Ms Thomas said.

“He never went to the pub, everything was about his family.

“They were his life.

“A lot of men would find it hard to live up to Tavis.

“He was just such a beautiful man.”

Ms Thomas has establish a GoFundMe to help support Mr Carter’s widow Ange and the children, with a funeral likely to be held next week.

“The kids are doing OK, I don’t think it has fully dawned on them yet but they are getting to the point where they are understanding,” Ms Thomas said.
