UPDATE: Torquay residents have reacted with shock after a serial Geelong prowler dubbed “the night stalker” targeted four homes in the early hours of Friday morning, with police attending.

The frightening and prolific alleged offender had previously hit homes in Rippleside, Highton and Bell Post Hill, gaining access to one, and is wanted by police over a number of attempted burglaries and aggravated burglary.

Home security footage at a residence on Links Drive in the Surf Coast town captured what appears to be the same man that has terrorised north Geelong suburbs over the last six weeks.

He can be seen wearing a face mask, gloves, hoodie and a floppy broad brimmed hat, different from the green flat broad brimmed worn in other alleged offences.

A hat matching that description was found on a footpath in Rippleside and handed into police shortly following an attempted break in on Bay Street on February 15.

On that occasion, the man was captured on CCTV being chased out of a front yard by a pet German Shepherd.

The Torquay victim of the alleged offence said the incident took place at 2.50am on Friday, March 3.

“He tried to open our front door with a tool of some type, unsuccessfully,” she said on a community notice board.

“We called the police this morning after reviewing the door cam footage and they attended fairly quickly.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said there were four attempted break-ins on Links Drive properties on March 3.

“He is described as wearing grey Adidas top and pants, a grey brimmed hat, face mask and gloves,” she said.

Geelong resident Scott Holbrook, whose home was targeted by the prowler, said it was alarming to see his offending expand geographically.

“The thoughts in Rippleside are anger, that he is at it again,” he said.

One resident referred to his offending as “relentless”.

“I knew it was only a matter of time,” she said.

“He lost his hat running from the house with the dog in Rippleside.”

It come as many homeowners in Geelong moved to beef-up security of their properties as a result of the serial offender.
