A man who went on a months-long crime spree across Geelong and Melbourne will spend more time behind bars, where he is currently serving a sentence for sexual assault.
Dylan Jones, 23, pleaded guilty to a series of car thefts and motor vehicle offences.
He is already in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 2020.
On March 27 last year, Jones stole a black Volvo wagon from Station St, in McKinnon, about 2am.
The vehicle was later spotted at a service station with differing front and back number plates.
The following day, Jones was seen on CCTV driving the vehicle into Melbourne’s Federation Square car park.
Security footage also showed a female accompanying the accused and the car “wrecking” the boom gate of the CBD car park when they tried to exit.
The vehicle was later found in Mildura.
On May 21, Jones attempted an aggravated burglary at a Princes Highway unit in Corio, armed with a machete.
Jones tried to gain access to the property before smashing the passenger-side window of a white Holden Trax and stealing a purse.
Police also alleged he was involved in a number of other motor vehicle offences in Corio on the same day.
He was arrested in Geelong on May 22 and remanded in custody.
Jones is already serving time in jail after being convicted of the sexual penetration of a child under 16 and two charges of sexually assaulting a child under 16 by touching.
Magistrate Simon Guthrie said: “I was troubled by the relatively significant amount of offending in a very relative short period of time, pretty much through the state of Victoria.”
Jones was sentenced to 110 days in prison, fined $631.50 and will lose his licence for 12 months..
