A high ranking Deakin University employee, who only spent 12 months in the role, has parted ways with the organisation.

In an internal email seen by the Geelong Advertiser, staff were told on Tuesday that chief infrastructure and information officer Peter Auhl no longer worked at the university.

Mr Auhl’s departure, effective immediately, comes at the one year mark of his employment at Deakin.

It is understood staff in the digital services department were told Mr Auhl left on Tuesday morning.

Deakin deputy vice chancellor Kerrie Parker said in the letter that Mr Auhl provided a valuable service in his short time.

“We acknowledge his contributions, particularly in designing the revised structure, leading key recruitment efforts, and strengthening partnerships across the university,” the letter read.

“We thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future.”

There is no current replacement for the vacant role and it is not clear if Deakin is looking for someone to fill the position in the long term.

“Interim leadership arrangements are currently being worked through and are likely to be communicated in the coming weeks,” Ms Parker wrote.

“Please direct queries to your relevant number of the Infrastructure and Digital Senior Leadership Team while interim arrangements are finalised.”

The departure would have “no impact” on day to day operations, Ms Parker said in the letter.

“There are no immediate changes to team structures.”

“Our focus is on ensuring continuity and interim arrangements are in place to support ongoing work.”

“In the meantime, key projects and responsibilities remain supported through the existing leadership team.”

Before working at Deakin, Mr Auhl was chief information officer at City of Adelaide and Central Coast councils.

He still serves as a board director for Eyre and Far Noth Local Health Network and disability service Cara.

Mr Auhl describes himself as an “experienced executive, digital leader, innovator and non executive director” on his LinkedIn profile.

Deakin University did not respond to a request for further comment.
