A Colac dad is being remembered as an “outright legend” after his microlight aircraft crashed into a paddock on Sunday.

A Colac dad is being remembered as an “outright legend” after he died in a microlight aircraft accident on Sunday.

Shane Ruhl, 37, was flying a microlight aircraft when it crashed into a paddock near the intersection of Kennys Lane and Rossmoyne Rd just before 9am on Sunday.

Emergency services performed CPR but Mr Ruhl sadly died at the scene.

Mr Ruhl had worked as a truck driver at Layanda Transport since January 2022.

Layanda Transport’s Layne Moulds said Mr Ruhl was “one of a kind’ and an “outright legend”.

“He had such a great work ethic,” he said.

“In (the truck industry), it’s hard to find drivers that are like him.

“He had pride in his job.

“He was such a good guy and was willing to help anybody.”

Fellow truck drivers on social media said Mr Ruhl was “a great bloke” and “a good guy gone too soon”.

A spokeswoman from the Sports Aviation Federation of Australia, the body for hang gliding, paragliding and microlight aircraft, could not comment on the incident but said the organisation was assisting investigators.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased,” the spokeswoman said.

Police are investigating the incident and officers will prepare a report for the coroner.
