Chris Scott invests in medicinal cannabis

Cats coach Chris Scott has revealed his interest in medical marijuana. This is how he’s backing the sector.

Cats premiership coach Chris Scott has revealed he invested in Levin Health –a sports science company focused on research, development and commercialisation of medicinal cannabis products –after becoming interested in the sector and whatfindings could mean for athletes.

“Levin Health is investing in research at La Trobe University which is important,” Scott said.

“Lauren Jackson’s circumstance has intrigued me andI’m interested to learn more about whatimplications her experience will have for athletes in the future.”

Basketball great Jackson has credited medicinal cannabis with helping her recover from chronic pain.

She is on Levin Health’s sports advisory board, alongside AFL coaches Damien Hardwick and Alistair Clarkson.

The federal government legalised access to medicinal cannabis in 2016.

Levin Health chief executive Mark Brayshaw said a growing number of Australians were becoming aware of medicinal cannabis as an alternative treatment option for a range of health conditions.

“Levin Health continues to investigate the efficacy of medicinal cannabis products for the treatment of pain, mental health disorders and sport-related ailments and we are heartened by the sheer volume of support we continue to receive from well-known athletes and coaches,” Mr Brayshaw said.

“The high-profile support we continue to receive will help to reduce stigma around medicinal cannabis and help our mission to improve people’s quality of life through our world-leading clinical studies involving medicinal cannabis treating conditions such as chronic pain, concussion and sports injuries.”
