Officers followed the vehicle, with the help of a police chopper, through Warragul, Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Dandenong South and Pakenham.

Police allege the ute was stolen from a home in Cranbourne West about 4am on Saturday.

Officers deployed tyre deflation devices on Greens Rd in Dandenong South.

The youths, who are not old enough to hold a driver’s license, then dumped the ute in Hedley Place in Hampton Park and fled the scene on foot.

A 16-year-old girl from the Geelong region and a 15-year-old boy from a Melbounre suburb were taken into custody in a nearby park.

The girl has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and she was bailed to front a children’s court at a later date.

The boy was charged with dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police, handling stolen goods and theft of motor vehicle.

He will front a children’s court at a later date.
