Post goes tumbling in Geelong school footy game

A Geelong Grammar student has outdone ‘Lethal’ Leigh Matthews after ripping a point post clean out of the ground during a derby clash with Geelong College on Saturday.

Footage posted to Twitter by Grammar sports mentor Troy Selwood, shows a forward chasing down the ball in attack and running into the behind post, which tumbled down near a stunned crowd.

Selwood wrote that the incident happened in the first ten minutes of the match between the two traditional rivals, which saw hundred of fans in school uniform roar in appreciation.

Selwood, who played 75 games for the Brisbane Lions before stints with Geelong VFL with the Cats AFL recruiting staff, claimed he had “seen a fair bit over my time in footy but I haven’t seen this”.

The demolition of the point post brought back memories of football legend Matthews running into a point post in a VFL match for Hawthorn against Essendon at Windy Hill in 1982.

When Matthews hit the post, is shook violently before snapping it in half, causing Lou Richards to exclaim “what a He-Man”.

Perhaps inspired by the point post hit, Grammar defeated College narrowly 4.11 (35) to 4.7 (31).
